New School Year

Greetings, TEE Teachers and welcome to the new school year! 

I am more excited than any year in the past, I started teaching 20 years ago in Thompson and didn't know what I was going to do day 2 and now have my entire semester set before we started and can't wait for my first f2f class today!

As the NDTEEA University Rep. Board Member and ITEEA State Champion, I wanted to update you all on a few things for the year.  

NDTEEA is a great group of professionals representing our profession across the state.  We have a lot of fun at the PDC with professional development sessions along with social functions like bean bags and golf.  We have also been doing a summer workshop for the past several years in Valley City that has been specific to Tech Ed, next year this will be in the Grand Forks Region.

Working on getting upload ability for teachers to submit lesson plans, design challenges, etc.  I encourage all to upload 1-2 lessons you use this year. 

I have 20+ ready to go once the upload feature is functioning properly.  Use what works for you, modify as needed, and email if you have questions about how I run them in class, etc.  I'll update once these are up and we can upload as individuals.

NDTEEA has a new idea to celebrate the success of past educators in our field with a Hall of Fame.  The committee is working on details and will send more information in the future. 

ITEEA Membership.

$95 per year.  Benefits include access to the Technology Teacher Magazine with lots of projects. Membership is also the only way to be eligible to be recognized as Teacher Excellence or Program Excellence Awards at the national conference which will be in Louisville, KY 3/31-4/3.

$299 School membership, maybe can use your budget for up to five teachers to be members.  

EbD Resources- All ND Tech Ed teachers can get access to EbD Curriculum.

VCSU ND Engineering Design Challenges

High School- VCSU will once again offer prize money to the winning high school team.  Specific project information is forthcoming.  

Middle School- VCSU and CTE are working on a grant to send out kits (one each quarter) for schools to compete with others across the state, similar to our HS EDC but on a smaller scale.  More information will be sent once the grant is finalized.  This should give you free resources to use in class and potential for students to win some small prizes while.

Both of these statewide engineering challenges are intended to promote our profession and recruit future teachers.  If you have students in your classes who might be interested please promote the profession as we all know there is a huge shortage and many of you want to retire one day and not see your shop doors closed due to no qualified applicants.  (could leave out, I'm not sure many will read this whole thing)
